The first Daredevil: Born Again season 2 trailer includes an incredible needle drop that helps set the mood for the footage and upcoming chapter in Matt Murdock's story. After originally dropping a first look at the new season at New York Comic Con in October, Marvel has finally officially released the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 trailer online for everyone to enjoy.

The 1-minute and 18-second-long teaser provides plenty of looks at Charlie Cox's return as the blind superhero, his relationship with Karen Page (Deborah Ann-Woll), the threat of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), and the return of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). As exciting as the trailer footage itself is, the Born Again season 2 trailer song also stands out thanks to how impactful the needle drop is.

The Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Trailer Song Is "Lithonia"

The Daredevil: Born Again season 2 trailer begins with a record player needle literally dropping down to start a song. But instead of a classic, decades-old song playing, we're treated to a modern release: Childish Gambino's "Lithonia." The guitar-heavy rock song was released by Childish Gambino, Donald Glover's musical stage name, in 2024 as part of the album, Bando Stone & the New World.

The song starts playing with Gambino singing "I did my job" over a shot of Bullseye (Wilson Bethel). He then sings "I paid my dues" as Anti-Vigilante Task Force members are shown helping civilians. And after flashes of Matt/Karen and Wilson/Vanessa's relationships as "Love is fools" is heard, the music cuts out as Gambino sings "Cause nobody gives a..." and Matt starts covering his ears.

The rest of the trailer is set to the more rock-heavy portions of "Lithonia," becoming a great backdrop for different action moments. It also links Jessica's return to the "overmedicated" portion of the lyrics.

Why "Lithonia" Is Such A Great Needle Drop In The Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Trailer

Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Shot

Choosing "Lithonia" as the song for Daredevil: Born Again season 2's trailer is a brilliant move by Marvel and their marketing department. The softer start allows the footage to begin on a lighter, sweeter note before embracing the louder, more hectic feeling of the rest of the song. Even the lyrics wonderfully connect to the footage we see and help set the stage for the story and themes that will unfold in the upcoming episodes.

Major themes of Childish Gambino's song include loneliness and feeling like no one cares about or appreciates you. This could easily connect to the headspace Matt is in during Born Again season 2. He's sacrificed a lot to be Daredevil over the years. With Fisk holding greater power than ever before and Matt still reeling from Foggy's death, he could be questioning why he even wants to be the Devil of Hell's Kitchen.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Born Again season 2's trailer had such a good needle drop, though. The team behind Marvel's show has a history of excellent musical taste. Daredevil: Born Again episode 8's ending song was also a perfect selection. Judging from the use of "Lithonia" in the trailer, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 could continue to have music be a significant influence on the show itself.
